What is a training log?
Well, it's a posh way of saying diet and fitness diary. Now before you say 'but I'm not training for anything' etc etc, you don't have to be training for the marathon or the Olympics to keep a training log.

Lots of people log their exercise on a daily basis, atheletes need to monitor themselves strictly so that they train and compete at their peak levels. Other people simply like to track their progress, and then on the black days when it seems like they're not making much progress, or it's all just too much trouble, they can look back and see just how much progress they have made. It's a great morale booster.
So how much or how little should you log?
I try to track the following:
General stats on waking i.e. sleep quality, fatigue, soreness, stress, weight.
Food and fluid consumed during day.
Exercise done, including a few stats like length of time, calories burnt, heart rate.
It might look like a huge list, but really it's not, once you get into the habit it's really quite quick. And then, when you haven't lost any weight for a week you can't say 'but I've hardly eaten a thing' because the diary will be there showing you that you just might have forgotten about the 6 Crunchies and 4 Snickers that you ate, on Tuesday.
So where to start, training logs can be written on your PC, your PDA, a notepad, diary, notebook or a purpose designed log. It doesn't matter where as long as you can review it easily, not lose bits of it, and it's easy to access each day to fill in.
If you really want to impress your friends and family then consider investing in one of the purpose designed logs available from places like Amazon.
Later on we'll look at what you put in it, but in the meantime make sure that everyday you get out and do that 30 minute walk. If you're working then lunchtime is ideal, take a good pair of walking shoes or trainers with you to work, put them on at lunchtime and before you eat go out and exercise those legs.
Caution: As with all exercise, if you haven't exercised for some time, or if you have any medical conditions, you should see your physician first for a checkup. Tell them what you are planning to do so they can advise based on any medical history you might have.
