I resolved to tick off each day as its task was completed. So how did I do?
Reviewing the week I didn't do the leg strength exercises on Wednesday or strength exercises Friday. So what does this tell me? Well it clearly indicates that I don't like doing strength exercises, and I should be ashamed of myself because I definitely need a bit of extra strength skiing, running I'm just not working the muscles that I use on the slopes enough.
This week I'm substituting a days skiing in for the strength exercises. Yes I know, not really helping myself am I? But surely 5 hours skiing is going to give my thigh muscles a better workout than 30 minutes of squats, lunges etc.
Because I'm just not confident that I'll be able to stay on my feet running on the snow and ice, my treadmill is putting in the kilometres at the moment, and one thing I find, although it does face out of the window at snow covered mountains is that it's boring compared with running outside.
MP3 player or not, it's a bit of a struggle to keep the distance up over the winter. Until I bought a wonderful little bit of technology, an Archos. It plays videos or music. So indulgently I have filled it with episodes of Star Trek (original, Generations, Voyager, Enterprise I watch them all). And my real favourite, Dr Who.
Then I select an episode and get running. And if it's a really good episode then I run faster and longer without even noticing. Sometimes it's hard to stop running because I want to see the end of the episode. For me this works great. Okay, so watching a 4" x 3" screen while running might not appeal to or work for everyone. But for me it's perfect.
And while the Borg have just assimilated another species I've just assimilated another 2 km entirely painlessly.
